Zz Top - La Grange
"La Grange" is the hit song from ZZ Top's 1973 album "Tres Hombres". Even though it at a glance, the song sounds like it's merely about a shack in a town in Texas, looking closely at the lyrics suggest otherwise. You will realize that they are talking about a whorehouse out in a little town in Texas. Fortunately for ZZ Top, radio stations did not pick up on the underlying themes of the song. Some of the lyrics in this song would be extremely hard to get played on the radio back in the early 70s. But in true rock and roll form, this is one of those songs that you have to listen to closely in order to understand what they are really talking about. Not to mention, the guitar riff in this song is priceless - just one of the best of all-time. There is a reason why Jimi Hendrix once said that Billy Gibbons was his favorite guitarist ever. This song proves that. |

For more info - www.eagle-rock.com Double Down Live is a 2 DVD set from ZZ Top combining shows from 1980 and 2008. Disc one was filmed at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany for the Rockpalast TV series. Hot on the heels of their classic Deguello album (it features 9 of the 10 songs from it) the show finds ZZ Top before sequencers and synthesizers epitomising their lil ol blues band from Texas nickname. Complimented by tracks drawn predominantly from their Tres Hombres and Fandango! albums this is a true best of ZZ Top in the seventies. Disc Two was shot during their European tour in 2008 and combines great live performances, interview clips and back stage footage to create the ultimate ZZ Top on the road movie. With nearly 30 years between the performances the two disc set gives a fascinating then and now insight into what has maintained the ZZ Top live phenomenon. |
